12/19/17 - This is a transkit from Star Models. I had the grille, bumper & hubcaps plated by ChromeTech USA. |
The donor kit is the Lindberg 1953 Ford convertible. |
I'm also going to use a photoetch detail kit from The Model Car Garage. |
12/26/17 - The Lindberg '53 Ford kit that was used to master the resin transkit had chrome rocker moldings. However my research showed that this was not the case for the '52. I attached the chrome parts to the '52 body. |
I sanded the chrome rockers smooth and filled the seams. |
1/8/18 - The Lindberg '53 also features chrome bumperettes on the lower rear quarter panels and backup lights on the panel beneath the trunk lid. However, these were very seldom seen accessories, so I decided to eliminate both by filling those areas. |
2/24/18 - Here's the body with primer applied. |
2/28/18 - Color coat applied, '52 Ford Sungate Ivory. |
3/9/18 - Body clearcoated. |
4/27/18 - Detailing on the body is finished. For the chrome trim I used a combination of Bare Metal Foil on the larger areas, and a Molotow chrome pen on the smaller. |
4/23/18 - The Lindberg donor kit only had wire wheels. My research showed that for the '52, steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps were the most common configuration. I made a latex mold using the inner wheels from the Lindberg '53 Victoria kit and outer wheels from the AMT '49 Ford. Then I cast duplicates in resin. |
4/29/18 - Here's the finished product. The tires and whitewall inserts are from the Lindberg kit. I painted the wheels body color and added the hubcaps that came with the resin transkit. They're hard to see in the photo, but I also made "Ford" decals for the hubcaps. |
5/6/18 - Completed chassis / interior assembly |
5/6/18 - Body mounted to chassis |
5/8/18 - I didn't like the decals that came with the donor kit, so I used artwork I found online to make my own, including the Ford emblems for hood and trunk and Sunliner script for the upper door trim. |
5/10/18 - I used photoetched scripts for the trunk and front fenders and also made V-8 emblems for the fenders. |
