1957 Ford Custom 300 Tudor Sedan

Construction Details

The Custom 300 sedan is one of several resin kits offered by The Modelhaus. This is a transkit, designed to be used with AMT's '57 Fairlane kit. '57 Fords came in two different wheelbase lengths, 116 inch and 118 inch. The Custom and Custom 300 rode on the shorter wheelbase, so to use the AMT Fairlane kit for the chassis would have required shortening it.

I decided to go a different route. I have a couple of other '57 Fords in my stash awaiting construction, including a couple of station wagons which also use the shorter wheelbase. I started with the chassis plate from the Modelhaus Custom kit and added wheelwell sections from their '59 Ford chassis to come up with a promo style chassis. I then made a rubber mold and cast duplicates in resin.

And here's the finished product.

This is the completed interior.

Since this will be a curbside model, I attached the hood from a donor kit permanently.

Paint is '57 Ford Colonial White and Starmist Blue from MCW Automotive Finishes.

Here it is after application of Bare Metal Foil.
